In January of 2005, former NBA star Dennis Rodman announced the resolution of a dispute with a music industry group that had accused him of violating copyright infringement laws by using pieces of music at his popular California restaurant without permission. Rodman has agreed to payment of music licensing fees back to 2002 and has signed a new contract agreement with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers. Rodman expressed frustration about the ASCAP's strict music copyright infringement law that all commercial establishments must pay the often exorbitant fees for the use of any of its eight million copyrighted songs and compositions performed live, played on jukeboxes or piped in from local and national radio stations.
ASCAP represents approximately 200,000 songwriters and composers that are paid royalties for the music they have composed and performed. The agency and Broadcast Music Inc. hold the licensing rights to the majority of popular songs, and, are just two of the organizations world-wide that charge for the music that many restaurants and businesses use for background music, music on-hold and production music for their establishments and projects.
Dennis Rodman is not the only business owner that has felt the strain of the cost of paying royalties to a music company in order to avoid breaking violating copyright infringement laws; many businesses have spent a great deal of money each month in order to keep their music library current and diverse and satisfy complex copyright infringement laws. More and more business owners each year are choosing royalty free music to fulfill their musical needs because it is a low cost alternative in which there are no on-going fees or royalties to be paid to the seller of the music or the artists that created it. High quality royalty free music and free royalty free music provided by rich libraries such as that offered by Award Winning Music can be used by nearly every company that would benefit from the addition of unique royalty free music for restaurants, film and television production studios, radio stations, large and small businesses and schools. Royalty free music is an ideal alternative for those that pay monthly fees to music providers for on-hold music or background music in their restaurants or companies, because it involves a one-time charge, which, once paid gives clients access to the music in perpetuity.
